A Honolulu man is facing two counts of attempted murder after allegedly attacking his parents with a hammer in a brutal assault that left both victims hospitalized with serious injuries.

The suspect, identified as 29-year-old London Opendack, is accused of attacking his 64-year-old mother and 77-year-old father inside the Moana Vista Apartments on Ala Moana Boulevard late Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred around 4 p.m., according to the Honolulu Police Department.

Authorities reported that the victims sustained multiple injuries to their heads, faces, and hands—consistent with a violent physical assault. Honolulu Emergency Medical Services quickly responded and transported the couple to a nearby hospital in serious condition. Their current medical status has not been publicly disclosed.

After the attack, Opendack fled the scene, prompting a citywide search. Police located and arrested him approximately three hours later, around 6:50 p.m., near the Walmart on Keeaumoku Street, roughly a mile away from the site of the incident.
On Monday, prosecutors formally charged Opendack with two counts of second-degree attempted murder. His bail has been set at $1 million.

Authorities have not released a motive for the attack. The case remains under investigation.

Blood Poses Serious Health Hazards

Violent assaults involving blunt-force weapons, such as hammers, can result in traumatic injuries and extensive bloodshed. When multiple people are wounded—especially in a confined space—blood and bodily fluids can spread across a wide area, contaminating surfaces and materials throughout the scene. This contamination carries a high risk of exposing others to bloodborne pathogens such as hepatitis B, hepatitis C, HIV, and other infectious diseases. Given these risks, professional biohazard cleanup is not only necessary—it is critical to protecting health and safety.

Leave Blood Cleanup to the Experts

After a violent incident like a hammer attack, the cleanup process is far more than just removing visible traces of blood. Blood can seep into porous materials, penetrate cracks, and contaminate hard-to-reach surfaces. Untrained individuals may unintentionally leave behind hazardous material, putting themselves and others at risk. Beyond the health dangers, cleaning up such a traumatic scene—especially if it involves family members or housemates—can be deeply distressing and emotionally overwhelming.

In this case, asking the homeowner to clean up the blood of his own family or roommates would not only be unsafe but also psychologically damaging.
